Smart charging: EV load management

Charge when energy is cheapest and renewable output is highest.

Problem

Consumption peaks, high energy costs, missed renewable integration opportunities. No intelligent orchestration across stations, customers and energy markets.

Solution

Orchestrator combining market signals, customer profile and renewable availability. Real-time recommendations for load management and dynamic tariffs. Consolidated financial impact view.

KPIs

  • Energy cost per kWh delivered
  • % energy delivered in optimized windows
  • B2B margin uplift via smart charging
  • Reduction in contractual peaks

How it is measured

Every KPI with a baseline and a target.

The numbers for this project come from your data. We measure the baseline during framing, agree the target with you before building and, in production, measure the same KPIs the same way.

  1. 01BaselineMeasured during framing, with the data of the process as it runs today.
  2. 02TargetAgreed with the case owner before building, starting from the baseline.
  3. 03In productionThe same KPIs, measured the same way, compared with the baseline.
Energy cost per kWh delivered
Cost of the energy bought divided by the kWh delivered in sessions, per month.
% energy delivered in optimized windows
kWh delivered in the recommended windows, divided by all kWh delivered.
B2B margin uplift via smart charging
Margin per kWh on B2B contracts with load management, compared with the same period without it.
Reduction in contractual peaks
Peak power drawn per site, from the electricity bills or the meters.

Before starting

Prerequisites and risks.

Prerequisites

  • Chargers that accept remote power commands, such as OCPP charging profiles.
  • Consumption data per site, tariffs and, where there is one, local solar output.
  • Agreement with customers on acceptable flexibility: by what time the car must be charged.

Risks and how we handle them

  • Car not charged at departure time

The optimisation works within each customer's constraints. If prices or output change, the departure time and the minimum charge come first.

  • Site and grid limits

Contracted power and site limits go into the orchestrator as constraints, before any cost optimisation.
